Colin Firth to Receive Volvo-Sponsored Humanitarian Award From British Academy of Film & Television Arts/L.A. 1282
LOS ANGELES (Oct. 27, 2009) - Internationally recognized actor Colin Firth will receive the prestigious British Academy of Film & Television Arts/Los Angeles Humanitarian Award Presented by Volvo on Nov. 5 at the annual BAFTA/LA Britannia Awards gala.
Firth is an Ambassador for Oxfam International, an organization dedicated to fighting poverty and related injustice around the world. He also is a supporter of Survival International and the co-founder of Café Progreso, a fair trade coffee chain. Firth is also involved with Eco Age, a retail store and environmental consultancy promoting green living. In 2008 he was named "Philanthropist of the Year" by The Hollywood Reporter and, in 2006, was voted "European Campaigner of the Year" by the EU.
Previous winners of the Humanitarian Award Presented by Volvo are Richard Curtis (2007) and Don Cheadle (2008).
Firth's versatility has been recognized in both dramas and comedies, garnering critical acclaim and awards including nominations from the Screen Actors Guild, an Emmy nomination, and multiple BAFTA nominations. Firth will next be seen starring in "A Single Man," based on the acclaimed Christopher Isherwood novel. Firth was recently awarded Best Actor at the 2009 Venice Film Festival for his performance. He will also appear in Robert Zemeckis' "A Christmas Carol," a 3D motion-capture-animated version of the classic Dickens tale which stars Jim Carrey and Gary Oldman.
His film credits include "Genova," "Mamma Mia," "Then She Found Me," "And When Did You Last See Your Father," "Easy Virtue," "Girl With A Pearl Earring," "Bridget Jones' Diary," "Love Actually," "The Importance of Being Earnest," "Shakespeare In Love," "The English Patient," "Where the Truth Lies," "Trauma," "Apartment Zero," "My Life So Far," Nick Hornby's "Fever Pitch," "Circle of Friends" and the title role in Milos Forman's "Valmont."

What Drives Edward Cullen May Soon Drive You. 1283
Know what Edward Cullen drives? Volvo is putting a challenge out to all Twilight fans by launching a new global online promotion in conjunction with the release of The Twilight Saga: New Moon film. Visit http://www.whatdrivesedward.com/ and enter to compete in the game and get the opportunity to win a shiny new Volvo.
Starting November 1, fans have the chance to win a shiny new Volvo. The US fans can win a Volvo XC60 - just like the one Edward drives in New Moon. By logging onto http://www.whatdrivesedward.com/ and putting their Twilight saga knowledge to the test in an interactive game.
"Volvo is central to Edward's character in the Twilight saga," said Doug Speck, president and CEO of Volvo Cars of North America. "One lucky fan will solve all of the puzzles in Volvo's New Moon interactive game and win a new XC60. While the XC60 doesn't come equipped with a vampire, the winner will experience the power, beauty and protection that is Volvo-and it will transport them to all of their great moments in life."
Other Volvo markets that participate in the competition is Canada, UK, France and Germany will also be joining.
How the Volvo New Moon Game Works
Starting November 1, players can register at http://www.whatdrivesedward.com/ and will receive clues to help solve a series of puzzles. Since the puzzles increase in difficulty, players are encouraged to exchange hints through Facebook, Twitter and MySpace. The game runs for three weeks from November 1 through November 23.
In addition to the game, fans can watch trailers from the film, check out photos in the gallery and download New Moon-themed desktop wallpapers at http://www.whatdrivesedward.com/.
Edward drives an XC60 that features the Saville Grey metallic exterior, a sandstone beige/espresso interior, a cream leather steering wheel,19-inch Achilles diamond cut wheels and exterior accessories such as side scuff plates, front bumper bar and rear skid plates.
In addition to the United States the online promotion will run in Canada, the United Kingdom and France where fans in those countries collectively will have a chance to win two tickets to the world premiere and a winner in each country will be awarded a shiny new Volvo (model depending on market). Fans in Germany will be able to compete in the online game and win a car as well.
The Twilight Saga: New Moon will premiere in markets around the world from November 20 through December 25.
In the film directed by Chris Weitz and starring Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner, the romance between mortal and vampire soars to a new level as Bella Swan (Stewart) delves deeper into the mysteries of the supernatural world she yearns to become part of-only to find herself in greater peril than ever before. Here are the first official pictures of the all-new Volvo S60 - sportier and more dynamic than any previous Volvo model.

The Volvo S60 can be equipped with Pedestrian Detection - a groundbreaking safety feature that can detect pedestrians in front of the car and brake automatically if the driver does not react in time.
The all-new Volvo S60 is being unveiled to the public for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show in early March next year. Production of the sporty sedan model will start in early summer 2010 at the Volvo Cars plant in Ghent, Belgium.
"Customers in this segment want emotional appeal, sporty design and dynamic driving properties. The S60 has it all. We are convinced that it will be one of the strongest contenders around," says Stephen Odell.
